En 1886, les Occidentaux leur ayant interdit l'accès au port de Shantou,Tang Hio, menuisier, n'a pu expédier par bateau la commande qu'il avait préparée avec sa femme Tang Leng Kung pour leur communauté installée au Cambodge. Pour s'occuper les mains, il part dans la forêt, où son épouse plante de jeunes pousses d'arbres, afin d'y chercher un beau tronc dans lequel réaliser une armoire pour y entreposer ce qu'ils ont de précieux. En 1922, peu après le terrible typhon qui s'est abattu sur la région, leur fils Siao Yi, devenu père de famille, songe à partir lui aussi au Cambodge. Mais ce n'est que sous l'occupation japonaise, en 1940, que son seul fils choisit l'exil.
In 1886, having been denied access to the port of Shantou by the West, Tang Hio, a carpenter, was unable to ship the order he had prepared with his wife Tang Leng Kung for their community in Cambodia. To keep his hands busy, he set off into the forest, where his wife was planting saplings, in search of a fine trunk from which to make a cupboard to store their precious belongings. In 1922, shortly after the terrible typhoon that hit the region, their son Siao Yi, now a father, thought of leaving for Cambodia too. But it wasn't until the Japanese occupation in 1940 that his only son chose exile.
