Three years after winning both a César and an Oscar for his screenwriting work with Justine Triet on Anatomy of a Fall, and five years after his previous directorial effort Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle, Arthur Harari is finally releasing his latest feature film The Unknown. 

The film premiered in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and stars Léa Seydoux and Niels Schneider as two strangers who awaken one day to find they’ve exchanged bodies. Adapted from the graphic novel The Case of David Zimmerman, cowritten by Harari and his brother Lucas, the director describes the film as a "realistic urban chronicle, fantasy film, investigation, melodrama and daydream".

The Unknown is Harari’s third feature film, after Onoda and Dark Inclusion, following a series of shorts which he directed between 2006 and 2013 and which are all available in L’Agence du court métrage’s catalogue. La Main sur la gueule, one of his most emblematic shorts, was recently digitised and restored with the help of the CNC.

The Unkown was released in France in August, and will be coming to international cinemas in late 2026 – early 2027.
